Courtney Grant, Violist
Courtney Grant is an active freelance violist in the Meridian area. Ms. Grant received her Bachelor of Music degree in Music Performance from The Pennsylvania State University and her Master of Music degree in Music Performance from the University of Delaware. She has also studied at the Peabody Conservatory while pursuing a Graduate Performance Diploma. Currently she is a DMA candidate at West Virginia University. Her primary teachers have included Dr. Timothy Deighton, Andrea Preister Houde, and Richard Field.
As an orchestral musician Ms. Grant has performed with the Lancaster Symphony, Pottstown Symphony, Washington Korean Symphony Orchestra and has served as principal violist for the Trinity Chamber Orchestra in Washington, D.C. for the past two years. In addition she has performed at the Endless Mountain Music Festival and the Masterworks Music Festival.
As a chamber musician Ms. Grant has been a founding member of the Graduate String Quartet at the University of Delaware and Black Cat String Trio and the Riverside Quartet. Additionally she has played with the Graduate String Quartet at West Virginia University who competed at the National Level of the MTNA Chamber Music Competition in 2014. She has played in master classes for many top chamber musicians including Peter Wiley, David Finckle, Jonathan Carney, the Brooklyn Rider String Quartet, Serafin String Quartet, and Monteclaire String Quartet .
In addition Ms. Grant has also been teaching private violin and viola lessons for the past 15 years. She has a taught a wide range of abilities and ages and is always looking to expand her studio!
Ms. Grant currently resides in the Meridian area with her husband (who is also a DMA student at WVU studying percussion) and their cats. Besides music she enjoys running, horseback riding and reading.
